Your Senior Portraits are a representation of you, your personality and a very important chapter in your life - finishing high school! Let’s help you feel confident in choosing outfits that photograph well, look timeless and complement your own unique and individual style.

These are our top tips and advice for choosing what to wear for your Senior Portraits;

the Denim & White Top look

This look is universal and can be modified in a myriad of ways. We recommend starting with your favorite pair of denim ( i.e. a pair that is most flattering and that you feel comfortable in ). Try to avoid rips and holes; a clean denim wash is going to look the most timeless. Pairing it with a white blouse, tee, or top and some sneakers ( or a boot / heel depending on the season and your personal preference ) will round out the look. Don’t forget a belt and your favorite accessories. You can even bring a lightweight jacket or leather jacket to give additional variety.

You can also choose any top to wear with a nice pair of jeans, whether it’s a sweater in fall, or something your favorite color. It just really boils down to picking an outfit that is moderately elevated from your everyday look, without being too dressy. We just love how classic a great denim outfit photographs - and recommend it for at least one of your outfits - no matter how you choose to style it!

the LWD look

A Senior Portrait classic is the Little White Dress. Almost every one of our clients wears some variation of a LWD for their senior photos - and if you are choosing our MINI session with two outfits, we recommend these first two outfit tips for your session as a way to have something more casual and something more dressy for your photos!

There are two ways to wear your dress - you can go all out with heels and accessories, or make it a little more casual with cowboy boots or a sneaker. This one is totally up to you!

Of course - if dresses aren’t your thing, that is okay, you don’t have to wear one! And if dresses are your thing, feel free to wear more than one, or variations on this look with a skirt + top. All that truly matters if you wear things that you feel confident and comfortable in.

the sweater + skirt look

Another fun and playful outfit is a sweater with a skirt ( or shorts ) + optional layers. You can really go any direction with this look depending on your style and if you enjoy skirts or shorts. An oversized sweater with a mini skirt is darling, or a crop drop with a maxi and a cardigan or jacket as a layer. This is a fun look to round out your outfit choices and gives you a lot of options and variations in ways to style for your photos.

Don't forget to think about your shoes - and whether you want to wear sneakers, a flat sandal or boots!

bringing it all together

When putting your outfits together; whether you are going to be wearing just two for a MINI session, or 3+ for our ULTIMATE - think of how they will all look cohesively together in your gallery or home. We always suggest sticking to a color palette or vibe that suits your personality - and if you aren't sure which colors to wear, a simple black & white color palette is always going to look great.

We suggest thinking about two things when choosing your outfits -

  • Wear what you will WANT to see yourself sharing online and with family. Wear your favorite outfits and what you are most comfortable in, otherwise if you don't feel like your best self, it will show. We want you to feel comfortable, radiant and happy!

  • Stick to a theme or vibe that is uniquely you - and we will also plan a location suited to your outfits. If you want to wear all dresses and have a romantic vibe, we will pick somewhere with flowers. If you want to wear heels and dress up - we will pick something a bit more urban and sophisticated. If you are super casual , we will head somewhere full of greenery. No matter what - you are going to look amazing and have fun!

quick tips & tricks

  • Be sure all your clothing items have been ironed or steamed to remove any excess wrinkles. We recommend hanging everything up before your session and bringing with you in the car - either neatly laid out, or still on the hangers to keep everything organized and wrinkle free!

  • Remove any tags or lose strings ( especially those pesky hanger loops on dresses and tops )

  • Make sure you have tried on your outfits before your session to ensure everything fits how you would like - and looks good together.

  • Check for any sheer tops or skirts and bring proper undergarments. Just as important is to check that you have the proper bra to go with your tops to avoid any straps showing ( that you might not want visible in your photos ) - any requests to remove them in photoshop after the fact will be charged extra editing fees.

  • Don’t forget socks to wear with your shoes - and any accessories you might need for your outfits, whether it is a belt - or your favorite jewelry.
