my story

I first picked up a camera at the age of 15
My interest in photography started in early high school. I loved to take photos out my bedroom window of all the unique cloudscapes, and would get my little sister to pose for me. It wasn't until my senior year of high school that I had time in my schedule to take a beginning film class. I was immediately hooked. I would spend hours in the darkroom developing my own film and printing black and white photos. My subject matter was usually capturing the way light filtered through trees, and whatever project I could convince my siblings to model for.
I entered college in 2002 at the University of Washington intending to study math or science. I quickly realized towards the end of my sophomore year I wasn't cut out for the math + physics courses and was desperate to switch tack. I took Intro to Photography that quarter and was accepted into the BFA of Photography major.
All through the final two years of college I started photographing friends in the drama department and taking on any and every odd-job in the photography field. I worked for the UW Daily, photographed bands, and even weddings for close to 4 years. It wasn't until 2006 that I formally started my photography business and stumbled into Senior Portraits.
Working with high school students for 20 years has taught me a lot. I am passionate about creating beautiful images, but most importantly I love to help people feel confident in front of the camera. I like to believe that my super power is making sure you feel comfortable at your session, and walk away glowing.
I'd be honored to be your photographer.
xx Michelle
